Romania’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu says that he was bothered by the attitude of Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and the Austrian government, who denied Romania the right to be part of the Schengen area, only because of an internal vested interest.
He also says that he has no opponents in the electoral campaign, considering that all politicians have to fight against tax evasion and drug trafficking.
„I don’t have an opponent. I want to unveil my manifesto as well as possible. I don’t think Romanians want any more opponents. (…) Evaders, drug traffickers… they must be opponents – mine, and Ciuca’s, Lasconi’s, and Geoana’s – those who want to harm Romania. The whole region and all of Europe sees Romania’s fantastic potential. Romania has brought balance to Europe. If Romania was not this buffer – with economic costs, with the cost of lowering the standard of living… that’s why I was upset by the Austrian government and Chancellor Nehammer. You can’t help but understand the role that Romania played and continues to play amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine (…),” Ciolacu told Antena 3 private broadcaster on Tuesday..
In his opinion, the political spectrum can no longer be divided only into parties of the left or right, because a third pole, sovereignism, has also emerged.
„We are no longer talking about left and right. We are already talking about three poles: the left, the right and sovereignism – which emerged and grew especially after the war in Ukraine. There are changes. (…) I believe that now politics is not about the left and the right. It is not about the president’s powers, which are limited – national security, he is the supreme commander of the armed forces and the foreign affairs area. I believe that now everything is about the economy and about the ability to create a regional hub in Romania, having all the premises for that,” said Ciolacu.
