PM Ciolacu: Promoting fiscal and financial resilience in the public sector is vital to ensure gov’t stability

Promoting fiscal and financial resilience in the public sector is vital to ensure stability and the ability of governments to respond effectively to crises in the system, as well as to ensure the provision of essential services to society, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday at the event dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the Court of Accounts of Romania.

The head of the Executive participates at the Romanian Athenaeum, together with President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, Senate President Nicolae Ciuca, Chamber of Deputies Speaker Daniel Suciu, and Court of Accounts President Mihai Busuioc, and other high guests, in the event „Responsibility. Relevance. Resilience in a challenging world,” marking the anniversary of the Court of Accounts.

„I am pleased to be here with you today to celebrate 160 years since the founding of this fundamental institution of the State, the Court of Accounts of Romania. These are 160 years in which the Court has undergone profound reforms and transformations, becoming today an example of good practice for everything that the Romanian institutional system stands for. Therefore, I would like to congratulate the entire management of the Court of Accounts for the efforts made in continuing the process of modernisation of this institution. I know that you have had to face major challenges, but through dialog and balance you have always managed to find solutions to meet the expectations of this institution,” said Marcel Ciolacu.

Ciolacu welcomed, in particular, the changes that have taken place both in the audit of public funds and in the communication between the Court and the decision-makers in society.

„We can have in Romania’s supreme audit institution a partner in auditing public policies in order to know how we can better support the final beneficiary, the citizen,” Ciolacu added.

The PM emphasised the importance of the Court of Accounts in ensuring good governance.

„Promoting fiscal-financial resilience in the public sector is vital to ensure stability and the ability of governments to respond effectively to crises in the system, as well as to ensure the provision of essential services to society. This is an integral part of good governance in the public sector,” Ciolacu said.

At the same time, the chief of the Executive appreciated the modernisation process undertaken by the Court of Accounts in recent years and affirmed the need for a more applied collaboration among central institutions for Romania’s development.

During the event, a philatelic album dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the Court of Accounts of Romania was launched.
