PM Ciolacu says Romania to join land Schengen this year

Published on

Romania will join the land Schengen this year, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday.

He answered this way when asked about the fact that the JHA Council is going to take place on Thursday and the topic of Romania’s accession to the Schengen area also with land borders „is not on the agenda”.

„No, it’s on the agenda, it’s not a vote, because in the meantime, you know as well as I do that the Austrian elections are just over. And it was very unlikely that Austria would change its mind only a few days after the elections. I am in contact with Chancellor Nehammer, let’s see what majority is created in Austria, and there is another JHA, on December 11-13. I hope that things will be clear by then very much,” Marcel Ciolacu pointed out.

The prime minister was optimistic about the date on which Romania will fully enter the Schengen area.

„Romania will join land Schengen this year”, added Ciolacu.
