PM Ciolacu: We shall create intitutional connection between Capital Hall and Romania’s Government

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday that „an institutional connection” will be created between the Bucharest City Hall and the Romanian Government.

Ciolacu said that following the meeting with the Bucharest mayor he will discuss with the justice and development ministers a material that the Bucharest mayor has provided him with regarding several construction sites in Bucharest that he deems as illegal.

„I believe that we have built something that leads to an institutional normality, regardless of who, temporarily, each of us, leads either the Romanian Government or the General City Hall, and we will create an institutional connection between the General City Hall and the Romanian Government. Naturally, I have this material from the Capital mayor. I will also speak with the Justice minister, I spoke last time also with the deputy prime minister and the Interior minister, also having an expertise in the legal area. I also had the discussion with the Development minister. I think that the court will decide, but as for the institutional functioning we will see how we will proceed best,” said Marcel Ciolacu, during the statements made together with the mayor general at the headquarters of the Capital City Hall.

He said that another topic of the discussion was related to the investments in green projects at the level of the Capital City Hall.

„Of course we also talked about the development of the Capital. Let’s see, with the minister of European Funds, what can be directed and what projects we can submit quickly on urban mobility, on everything that means green energy, on the electric area, the same, we have contracts with the European Investment Bank and the World Bank and of course I want large projects, first of all, to be a priority for the capital of Romania,” said Ciolacu.

The prime minister pointed out that following the discussions with Nicusor Dan, it resulted that the Capital general mayor is going to have a meeting with the district mayors to discuss issues such as traffic management and other public services, such as sanitation.

„Last but not least, I understood from the general mayor that he will have a meeting with all the district mayors in the coming period, to see, to make, however, an integrated traffic and many other public services for Bucharest, services that will have to be done at the level of the General City Hall, in an integrated system – I think garbage collection as well – so that we try to disrupt traffic as little as possible,” said Ciolacu.

At the beginning of the joint press statements, Bucharest general mayor pointed out that he has asked the prime minister to have the Construction State Inspectorate verify the 38 building permits granted under the District 2 Zonal Urban Planning.

„The request is that the inspectorate check them and the prefect challenges them in court,” said Nicusor Dan.

He mentioned that another topic of discussion with the prime minister was related to the possibility of financing Bucharest’s public transportation, as a sustainable solution to solve the capital’s heavy traffic.
