Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan is paying a working visit to Brussels, on which occasion he will have discussions with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

According to the agenda announced by the Government Press Office, on Thursday the Prime Minister will also meet Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Roxana Minzatu, Commissioner for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, as well as Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification.

Ilie Bolojan will participate in the Eastern Border Regions High-Level Conference, where he will deliver an address.

Afterwards, he will make press statements at the headquarters of Romania’s Permanent Representation to the European Union.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister met Romanian Members of the European Parliament in Brussels. On that occasion, discussions were held regarding the agenda of Thursday’s meetings with European officials.

‘The Prime Minister presented the main topics for discussion, from recovering the 231 million euros under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan following the adoption of the reform of special pensions for magistrates, to the SAFE programme, Romania’s fiscal and budgetary situation and the measures taken to reduce the budget deficit,’ the Government informed.

On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Bolojan said that the main topics he would address with European officials in Brussels concerned the launch of the EastInvest mechanism programme, the multiannual financial framework for the coming years and the absorption of funds under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

‘In Brussels, the key elements for discussion at the scheduled meetings relate to the programme developed by the European Union for the countries on the eastern border of the Union. This programme is now beginning and entails additional facilities for our country’s regions bordering Ukraine or those in the Black Sea area. We also have several aspects concerning the multiannual financial framework for the coming years and the absorption of funds under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, where we are currently in advanced discussions on matters relating to milestones and disbursements, so that by the end of August we can absorb the European funds allocated to Romania,’ Ilie Bolojan said at the Victoria Governmental Palace.
