Two people are still missing in the Galati County, severely affected by the recent floods, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu announces on Sunday.

„We don’t have very good news, there are still two people missing from two nights ago”, said Marcel Ciolacu, who is at the temporary camp especially arranged for the victims of the floods in Slobozia Conachi.

The prime minister also stated that there is a possibility, though, that the two people are away with their relatives.

„It could also be a false alarm, it is possible that people have gone to their relatives,” added the prime minister.

Four people lost their lives as a result of the floods that severely hit the Galati county. It is about two men from the localities of Pechea and Draguseni and two women from the localities of Costache Negri and Corod.

The head of the Executive went, on Sunday, together with the president of the Senate, Nicolae Ciuca, to see the victims’ camp in Slobozia Conachi.

On Saturday evening, the Government announced that 30 modular homes were already set up in the flood-affected areas of Galati County to accommodate the evacuated population.

According to a press release of the Executive, Marcel Ciolacu requested an additional 200 modular homes, which will be operationalized as an emergency and placed in safe areas, established together with representatives of the Romanian Waters Authority.

A number of 569 rescuers – firefighters, gendarmes, policemen, army forces, aviation personnel – were involved in the rescue and relief actions in the 22 affected localities in Galati county.

Two detachments of the Ministry of National Defence, equipped with rescue boats and trucks, also intervened, at the request of the local authorities, in Galati County.
