PNL’s Bolojan: Most difficult position in Romanian administration after PM is that of Capital general mayor

Published on

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), said on Thursday that the position of general mayor of the Capital is the most difficult one in Romanian administration after that of prime minister.

‘You should know that after the position of prime minister, I believe the most difficult position in Romanian administration is that of general mayor of the Capital because you face problems that are very hard to solve. Bucharest has very serious financial problems in the sense that a large part of the General City Hall’s revenues is consumed by subsidies for district heating, where there are major arrears to energy suppliers, and by public transport. As general mayor of the capital you face insurmountable problems, think of traffic because planning is needed to build underpasses and overpasses, to ease congestion on the main arteries, which cannot be done easily in a city like Bucharest, and you also have the problem of working with the other local administrations,’ Bolojan told Euronews Romania.

In his view, Bucharest needs a mayor with experience in local administration and the National Liberal Party’s candidate, Ciprian Ciucu, meets this requirement.

‘You cannot qualify on the job because that means losing years that Bucharest can no longer afford. Of course the people of Bucharest will choose but Mr Ciprian Ciucu, my colleague, has shown in District 6 that he has changed the face of that district in many places and anyone who goes there or lives there can see this. He has shown in these years that you can manage significant funds without corruption scandals, without any question over the price at which you carried out one project or another, so he has managed them with integrity. He is a serious man and someone who is attached to Bucharest,’ the prime minister added.

The mayor of District 6, Ciprian Ciucu, the National Liberal Party’s candidate for the 7 December elections for the Bucharest City Hall, submitted his candidacy papers to the Municipal Electoral Bureau on Thursday.

He was accompanied by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and other National Liberal Party leaders, including Catalin Predoiu and Sebastian Burduja, party members and supporters. AGERPRES
