PNL’s Ciuca on running for president says decision to be made after seeing local election results

Published on

National Liberal Party (PNL) President Nicolae Ciuca rejected the hypothesis that he is currently campaigning for the presidential elections, saying that the decision will be made in the PNL after the local elections.

„The presidential elections are the delight of all assumptions and discussions at the moment, but (…) let’s conclude the local elections. (…) Sure, we can discuss the profile of the president, as we each see it. The future president can be male or female, he must be a man or a woman who has performed in his career, who has the necessary knowledge to bear the integrated responsibility of state institutions, he must have the dedication and commitment to serve his fellow citizens and be able, every time, to put above all the interests of the nation,” Ciuca told Euronews Romania on Thursday.

He mentioned that in the PNL the candidacy for president is decided within the party’s forums.

Asked if he wants to be president of Romania, Ciuca replied, „It is not about what I want. (…) Matters depend on several factors. Let’s give it time, see how it goes and what the results are in the local elections, after which we will make a decision.”
