PNL’s Ciuca: Over 3 million pensioners will draw higher incomes from October 1

National leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said on Tuesday, after Parliament passed a bill exempting from taxation pensions below RON 3,000, that over three million pensioners will have higher incomes from October 1, mentioning that he is firmly committed to PNL continuing to be with every senior citizen.

„Pensions under RON 3,000 will no longer be taxed! The Liberal initiative that does justice to pensioners was voted today by Parliament. Under it, the tax cap increases from RON 2,000 to RON 3,000, and a 10% tax will be levied on the amount exceeding RON 3,000. Over 3 million pensioners will have higher incomes from October 1,” Ciuca said in a social media post.

He added that the bill finalises the reform of the state pension system.

„By this measure, we make life better for the seniors who worked to build the Romania we live in today. The bill, together with the digitisation of the pension system also initiated by the Liberal Labour Minister at the time Raluca Turcan, the recalculation of pensions and the elimination of inequities, definitively reforms the state pension system. I am firmly committed to PNL continuing to be at the side of every senior citizen. Today’s Romania has stood on their shoulders, and we, the Liberals, respect their legacy and contribution.”

At a plenary session on Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies passed a bill setting the cap on tax-exempt pensions to RON 3,000 from a previous RON 2,000, 277 to 3 abstentions. The Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body (EUR 1 = RON 4.97).
