PNL’s Ciuca to check if PNL bill needed for Iohannis’ candidacy

Published on

National leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said on Saturday in Cugir, Alba County, that he does not believe that he would have come out with the PNL bill allowing President Klaus Iohannis to run in the parliamentary election while in office if there was no need for additional legislation in that regard, but that he will check.

Asked to comment on a statement by national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu that no additional legislation is needed for President Klaus Iohannis to be able to run for a parliamentary seat, Ciuca said that he will check together with the specialists if that is the case.

„I don’t have the necessary knowledge in this area. We will discuss with our lawyers, with our specialists and we will check if that is the case. From what I know at the moment, because I don’t think we would have come up with such an approach if there was such a possibility. But we will check,” said the PNL leader.

Ciolacu made the statement on Saturday in Cluj-Napoca.
