President Dan: I had a long history of tension with PSD, now I have an excellent relationship

Published on

President Nicusor Dan on Sunday said that „he had a long history of tension with the Social Democratic Party (PSD), but, since the Social Democrats accepted to join the ruling coalition, he has had an excellent relationship with them and at the same time reasonable discussions with the party’s leader, Sorin Grindeanu.

„It’s no secret that I had a long history of tension with the PSD, especially at the local level, in Bucharest. But, since PSD agreed to make a coalition at the national level, I have a very good relationship with the PSD. I mean, all the discussions we have are absolutely reasonable. With Mr Grindeanu, obviously, I interact the most, being both the former and the new national leader of PSD. (…) I tell him how I see a certain situation; he tells me what his vision is from his perspective. That is important, from the perspective of the people they represent. I think the interaction we had these months was very civilised,” Dan told Romania TV private broadcaster.

The president added that he is trying to respect the mandate he received from the citizens and thus establish a fair relationship with PSD.

„Without using big words, I think that each of us is trying to carry out the mandate that the citizens have given them. I mean, I don’t think the citizens expect me to argue with PSD. And I don’t even think that PSD voters expect Mr Grindeanu to argue with me. On the contrary, I believe that each of them wants us, within certain limits, to carry this country forward. (…) We tried to respect our mandate, I think,” Dan said. AGERPRES
