President Nicusor Dan has invited trade unions Cartel Alfa, the National Trade Union Bloc, CNSLR – Brotherhood, Meridian and the Confederation of Democratic Trade Unions of Romania (CSDR) to talks on Monday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, according to sources with the Presidential Administration.
The Cartel ALFA National Trade Union Confederation protested on Thursday at Cotroceni, demanding a fair tax reform where the burden should be fairly distributed between capital and labour.
At the same time, the trade unionists demand that any measures to reduce public spending start first of all with the political decision-makers (parties and lawmakers), by reducing subsidies and eliminating privileges and immediately stopping austerity measures, which hit workers and citizens.
Other demands include correct resizing of the public administration, not through cuts, but through investment in human resources, and real and inclusive social dialogue, with the participation of all actors – trade unions, employers and the civil society.
They also demand an active presidency that would mediate social conflicts and guarantee social justice.
