President Nicusor Dan will pay a visit to Warsaw on Thursday, at the invitation of his Polish counterpart, Karol Nawrocki.
During the visit, the Romanian head of state will also have meetings with the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, as well as with the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Wlodzimierz Czarzasty, and the Marshal of the Senate, Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska. President Nicusor Dan will also participate in an economic event organised by the Polish-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PRBCC), the Presidential Administration reports on Wednesday.
„The advancement of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Poland, as well as better cooperation at European and allied levels, are the defining coordinates of this visit. In this regard, the priorities on the bilateral agenda and the major projects within the Strategic Partnership will be discussed, with an emphasis on the development of economic exchanges and investments,” a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday reads.
According to the same source, the theme of European security will represent a main topic of discussion, in the context of the risks generated by the aggression of the Russian Federation on Ukraine and the conflicts in the Middle East. Thus, the talks will focus on the collaboration of Romania and Poland to maintain European and allied solidarity, with the main objective of strengthening the deterrence posture on NATO’s Eastern Flank. The best ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of security and the defence industry, as well as at a multilateral level, will be discussed, within the framework offered by the Bucharest Format 9, whose next meeting will take place this year in Bucharest in May.
For close coordination between Romania and Poland, topical issues such as those regarding the European Council agenda, the European Union enlargement process, the transatlantic relationship, support for Ukraine and the situation in the Republic of Moldova will also be addressed, the same source indicates.
President Nicusor Dan’s visit to Poland takes place in the context of the Romanian-Polish Solidarity Day, celebrated on March 3, the date that marks the signing of the „Defensive Alliance Convention between the Kingdom of Romania and the Republic of Poland” in 1921, a symbol of friendship and the deep ties that unite the Romanian and Polish people, the Presidential Administration notes.
