President Nicusor Dan said that Wednesday’s talks at the Cotroceni Palace with the parliamentary parties are aimed at ways to balance the state budget and the new Government, whose formation he hopes will be completed within two to three weeks and will include the four pro-Western parties.
„[The consultations] are on two levels: one – to see how to balance the budget and two – to see how to form the government, but the second depends on the first,” said Nicusor Dan, on Wednesday, in a statement to the press outside his home.
The president said that on Tuesday he had technical discussions on cutting state spending.
„There have been technical discussions to find places where we can cut state spending. (…) There are some places. Now let’s see what the vision of the parties is,” the head of state conveyed.
He expressed the hope that the new government will be formed in two to three weeks.
Asked whether it is possible to have a government without the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he replied: „Many things are possible, but the most important thing is to provide stability and predictability from an economic point of view, and you cannot do that with a minority government, which is why I would like the four pro-Western parties to be in the government, to have a stable majority, so that whoever wants to invest in Romania or whoever wants to borrow in Romania knows that there is stability.”
About the fact that the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) representatives will be absent from the consultations at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, Nicusor Dan said that it is their decision.
The representatives of the S.O.S. Romania Party also announced on Facebook that they will not attend the consultations.
President Nicusor Dan convened on Wednesday informal consultations with parties on the economic and political situation of the country.
