President Nicusor Dan on Thursday said that ‘the fundamental problem’ is that major corruption cases cannot be resolved within 15 years.
‘At this moment, the fundamental question in my view is the following: for major acts of corruption, both under the Criminal Code and under that special law of the DNA [National Anti-Corruption Directorate], the statute of limitations reaches 15 years. I believe the fundamental problem is why we are unable to resolve an act of corruption within 15 years. In other words, within two or three years the person targeted by such a case should have both the investigation and the trial completed, so that there is a resolution. That is the fundamental problem,’ the head of state said.
