President Dan: The Romanian state needs to conduct complex sociological studies on Romanians in the diaspora

Published on

President Nicusor Dan, who participates on Tuesday in the Digital Governance Summit, said that Romania needs to periodically conduct complex sociological studies on the Romanians in the diaspora, noting that this community represents a huge opportunity for our country.

„It is time for the Romanian state to periodically conduct complex sociological studies on the Romanians in the diaspora, in order to better understand the concrete needs of this community and, as I also wrote in the strategy (the National Defence Strategy – editor’s note), Romanians in the diaspora represent a huge opportunity for us, because they are people who have performed in a much more competitive environment than the one in Romania. In other words, having a permanent dialogue with them, offering them the opportunity to come and invest in Romania or have economic ties with Romania is a great opportunity for us,” the president said at the 2025 Digital Governance Summit.

He said that the most important services that can be offered to Romanians in the diaspora are consular ones, noting that no matter how many consular points are opened, they will still be far from many of those in the diaspora.

„And then, the more you manage to digitise, the more you shorten their time and gain their trust in this state, which is very important,” added the president.

According to the head of state, Romanians in the diaspora have only seen the politicians during the electoral campaigns until now, and now they should see the people working in the administration, who are concerned with their problems, „full-time”.

„We should have a structure adapted to their need to have Romanian language and culture courses for their children,” Nicusor Dan pointed out. AGERPRES
