President Nicusor Dan will present on Thursday, at the European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen, the Prosecutor General’s report on the annulment of the presidential election in December 2024, pointing out that this is Romania’s initiative.
Upon arriving at the meeting, he said that the agenda would include discussions on the situation in the Republic of Moldova following the parliamentary elections, the drone threat, disinformation and Russian influence.
The President said he would present the Romanian Prosecutor General’s report, which includes details on financing and the attempts by the Potra group to destabilise the country.
‘The most important aspect concerns influence on social media, with that mechanism described by the Prosecutor General, involving three steps a site that leads to another site, which appears to be related to daily life (…), you click on it, get redirected to another site, and from there to a cloned version of a television website or even a legitimate-looking site, making it seem as though the news is genuine. (…) Then, the way they operated on TikTok to push the hashtag Georgescu’ to the top of the trends,’ explained Nicusor Dan.
‘There will be a discussion about what each country is doing to counter this,’ the President added.
When asked whether the presentation had been requested by international partners, Nicusor Dan replied: ‘It’s our initiative. A question was raised and now we have the answer.’ AGERPRES
