Your excellent results must be made known because they represent a source of pride for all of us and an inspiration for other young people, the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, told the young people at the Award Ceremony for the laureates of the international Olympiads, which took place on Tuesday at the National Children’s Palace in Bucharest.
„These brilliant results carry the name of our country to all corners of the world where competitions at the highest level take place, so that Romanian students receive well-deserved recognition for their effort and dedication. They are results that also reflect the involvement of both the tutors and the parents who understood that their mission and that of the school are complementary. In an era of fierce competition in which increasingly wide access to information comes with a series of challenges related to the ability to filter and select what is relevant and correct, it is absolutely remarkable what you manage through knowledge and self-knowledge, especially at your age. And here is that all your effort and sacrifices, but also those of your teachers and parents, have borne admirable fruit. Your excellent results must be made known because they represent a source of pride for all of us and inspiration for other young people,” the president of Romania conveyed in a message read by presidential advisor Diana Loreta Paun.
He also stated that although only one name is written on the diplomas received by these students, they reflect „the work of an entire team.”
„Your success also speaks of the teachers who discovered your talent, of their pedagogical art and of the schools that provided the resources necessary for performance at the highest level. I congratulate the teachers who were not only your teachers, but also your mentors, for their dedication and for the way in which they guided your steps towards a deep understanding of the world. Families play an essential role, and the emotional support you received at home was also fundamental. I thank them for helping you stay motivated and supporting you to reach your potential,” the president’s message states.
In her turn, the minister of education, Ligia Deca, stated that the results of these young people „are undeniable proof of the extraordinary potential that Romania has.”
„We are awarding over 170 students from 72 pre-university education units, state and private, from 33 counties and the municipality of Bucharest, and over 190 teachers who prepared them. You have brought Romania over 200 medals, prizes and mentions, at 33 international Olympiads and regional Olympiads or competitions by subject matter,” said Ligia Deca.
She announced that a novelty is the fact that the teachers who prepare the students for the olympiads will also be paid from now on.
Ligia Deca stated that, starting this year, in order to systematically support performance, the National Centre for Excellence was established, which will coordinate the county centres in the country.
The Ministry of Education organized on Tuesday the award ceremony for the laureates of the international olympiads in school subjects (2023 – 2024), the teachers who trained them and the educational institutions where the students/graduates study/have studied.
