The construction sector is a real engine of the national economy, says president Klaus Iohannis, in a message sent on the occasion of the National Builder’s Day, stressing that the Romanian state will continue to invest in infrastructure development and support innovation.
„Today, September 14, 2024, we celebrate the fifth edition of the National Builder’s Day, the most suitable occasion to emphasise the particularly important contribution of the construction sector to Romania’s development. We thus recognize the efforts of tens of thousands of professionals who make it possible to turn projects into reality in an era in which we face the phenomenon of labour migration on a large scale, the consolidation of internal resources is a priority. We must create an environment that attracts and maintains local talent, and the construction sector is a real engine of the national economy. The commitments of the Romanian state are clear and unequivocal: we will continue to invest in infrastructure development and support innovation,” stated Klaus Iohannis.
The president pointed out that the construction sector represented approximately 7% of Romania’s economy in 2023, supporting over 400,000 jobs and positively influencing related industries, such as services or production.
In this context, he emphasised the importance of European funds for the implementation of construction projects.
„European funds represent a crucial support in this direction. Romania benefits from approximately 27 billion euros for infrastructure development in the period 2021 – 2027, of which 15 billion are allocated directly to the construction sector. These funds are essential for the development of transport infrastructure projects and public utilities, as well as for the promotion of innovation and digitalisation in construction,” said Iohannis.
