President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday and Wednesday participates in the high-level meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly taking place in New York.
The main topic to be discussed during the current session of the General Assembly is „Unity in diversity for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for everyone everywhere”.
According to the Presidential Administration, the participation of president Iohannis in the General Assembly of the United Nations this year represents „an opportunity to highlight our country’s contribution to the global effort of accelerating the progress of the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives, in a context that continues to be marked by major challenges to the rule-based international order, which is increasingly less observed”.
Iohannis will deliver his speech on Wednesday in front of the plenum of the General Assembly, in which he will plead for maintaining multilateral dialogue, especially in the UN format, as an essential element of the regional and global safety, informs the abovementioned source.
Moreover, the head of state will highlight Romania’s efforts and contribution, at all levels, in solving the current global problems, from security crisis, such as the war in Ukraine or the Middle East conflict, to major challenges to humankind, among which the global crisis, the erosion of the human rights or cybersecurity threats.
In his speech, Iohannis will also pleade for a reformed UN system, capable of responding to all current and future challenges in an efficient and transparent manner, the Presidential Administration also shows.
