President Klaus Iohannis welcomed on Tuesday U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Cotroceni Palace, according to Agerpres.

You have chosen the perfect moment to visit Romania as we are facing a violent war in Ukraine, but also because we have to make some difficult and important NATO decisions, the Romanian head of state said at the beginning of the meeting, showing that bilateral subjects will also be discussed.

The moment could not be better amid the 25th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership, which developed in ways not even Presidents Clinton and Constantinescu could imagine at that time, but also because we have to discuss urgent and important bilateral, regional and even global issues, and in this context we are grateful to Romania for being such a strong ally and partner, said Antony Blinken.

The American official is in Romania until Wednesday to attend the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting.

The U.S. Secretary of State will hold political consultations on Tuesday with Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.

On Tuesday morning, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca visited the exhibition ‘We the People – 25 Years of Strategic Partnership’, a thematic photo essay that explores the diplomatic, security, economic and cultural relations between the Romanian and American people.
