President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday signed the decree for the promulgation of the Law regarding the empowerment of the Government to issue ordinances.
According to the normative act, the Government is empowered to issue ordinances in areas that are not subject to organic laws, from the date the law enters into force, but not before the end of the second ordinary session of 2024, and until the resumption of Parliament’s work in the first ordinary session of 2025.
The draft law establishes the following areas of regulation for which the Government is authorised to issue ordinances during the parliamentary recess: Finance and Economy; Development, Public Works, and Administration; Agriculture; Labour and Social Solidarity; Digitisation; Health; Internal Affairs; Transport and Infrastructure; Investments and European Projects; Culture; Environment; and the extension or modification of deadlines set in normative acts with the force of law.
The normative act provides that ordinances issued by the Executive must be submitted for approval to Parliament, according to the legislative procedure, until the resumption of Parliament’s work in the first ordinary session of 2025. Failure to comply with the deadline will result in the cessation of the ordinance’s effects.
