President Nicusor Dan on Thursday said that all political parties currently engaged in discussions – the Social Deocratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union (USR) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) – want to join the government.
‘I am very pleased that all the parties engaged in discussions want to be part of the government,’ said the head of state after attending the National Forum for the Future of Agriculture, organised by the Romanian Farmers’ Club.
Nicusor Dan said that the document drafted by party representatives regarding the deficit is not the final version and will be politically negotiated by party leaders together with him.
‘You will start hearing leaks from this technical document related to the deficit and the budget, drafted by the parties’ representatives. It is not the final version, it is a working document that will be politically negotiated by party leaders and myself. (…) Nothing you hear from leaks is final,’ said Nicusor Dan.
He added that discussions would be finalised on Monday.
‘It will be part of a simultaneous discussion with the other programme chapters, which are also expected to be finalised on Monday. We shall have an extended discussion Monday afternoon on the whole package,’ he explained.
When asked whether the PSD requested the prime minister position, he replied that ‘these are technical discussions.’
