Behind those performances there are hours, days, years, maybe decades of work, toil, giving up, many times failures, not just victories, the president of the Olympic and Sports Committee Romanian, Mihai Covaliu said on Thursday at the opening of the exhibition „Physical Education and Sport in Romania until 1945”, within the Bookfest International Book Fair.
„We need to know that, behind those performances, there is nothing but hours, days, years, maybe decades of work, toil, giving up, many times failures. And then, when we see the final product or the moment of glory, it is very important to know what is behind that moment of glory, when the athletes are on the podium, when the anthem is played or when an athlete failed to reach the podium,” said the former Olympic and world champion.
Remembering that the exhibition is opened around the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee and the 100th anniversary of the winning of the first Olympic medal for Romania, in 1924, in Paris, by the national rugby team men’s team of Romania, Mihai Covaliu also referred to the participation of Romanian athletes in the Olympic Games in Paris.
The director of the National Archives, Cristian Anita, told AGERPRES that the exhibition presents documents from the end of the 19th century – the beginning of the 20th century.
The exhibition will be open for the entire duration of the Bookfest Fair, being displayed near the Matca stage.
