Presidential candidate of the ‘Romania Forward’ Alliance Crin Antonescu emphasized on Tuesday in Constanta, the importance of the fact that this eastern area of Romania has „three extremely precious assets” – energy, the seaport and an exemplary interethnic coexistence, to which the Mihail Kogalniceanu Base adds – „an essential element in the security system.”
According to Antonescu, Romania can become a significant energy player in the European Union, alone with Constanta County’s resources and facilities.
„Three extremely precious assets for today’s and especially tomorrow’s Europe and implicitly for Romania are first and foremost here in Constanta. Firstly there’s energy – as Romania wants to be energy independent and can become an energy producer and supplier for the European Union, for other clients outside Romania. Here, very near in the open sea we have the large Neptun Deep natural gas project. Also here, in Cogealac, we have Romania’s largest concentration of wind energy, there’s also the Cernavoda nuclear energy facility. So, alone with the energy capabilities in Constanta County, Romania can become a significant energy player in the European Union,” Antonescu told a meeting with campaign teams and leaders of the Constanta County administration.
He added that the Port of Constanta can become the most important in the European Union „in an economic and strategic construction of the future, the Middle Corridor that goes all the way to Central Asia and all the way to China.”
The presidential hopeful also praised the model of interethnic coexistence in Dobrogea, as „the third absolutely significant thing, apparently less important, but with deep cultural and spiritual significance, the model Dobrogea and Constanta offer Romania and the European Union, as a traditional coexistence between several cultures, religions, and traditions.”
„Why is this tradition so important? Because it is necessary in the spiritual architecture, in the cultural architecture of a Europe that is somewhat adrift now, and in the stabilization, settlement, resettlement and health of which we as Romanians believe we are called to have a say,” Antonescu explained.
He also emphasized the importance of the Mihail Kogalniceanu military base „as an essential element in Romania and NATO’s current security system.”
„And thus, Dobrogea and Constanta can become and assert themselves not only as an economic and energy gateway of the European Union, but simply as a key point on NATO’s eastern flank,” said Antonescu.
According to him, in order to capitalize on the potential of these perspectives – energy, energy independence, energy supplier, commercial openness, gateway to the EU, the Middle Corridor, and interculturality model, a „state policy, governmental policy, foreign policy” is needed, but also a president dedicated to these goals.
„All these perspectives are guaranteed by a president who sets his sights on these goals, has the skill to pursue them, the steadfastness to find the fastest and most efficient possibilities to achieve them and who, together with the government, the parliamentary majority and the local administration, can build and carry out large-scale projects for this country. That’s what I’m running for”, said the presidential candidate of the ‘Romania Forward’ Alliance.
