The candidate of the ‘Romania Forward’ Alliance in the presidential elections, Crin Antonescu, said on Wednesday that he is convinced that the president of the country is called, from the first hour of his mandate, to unite and mobilize all the resources, all the energies of this nation, regardless of political options, regardless of the geographical place where he is, regardless of likes and dislikes, supporters or opponents.
„I have the fundamental, primary conviction that the president is called upon, from the first hour of his mandate, to unite and mobilize all the resources, all the energies of this nation, regardless of political options, regardless of the geographical place where he is, regardless of likes and dislikes, supporters or opponents. The president must have this power, because no one else is mandated and positioned to do it. And Romania, in these increasingly difficult times, needs the best of the best. We have lost enough in the course of time, we have lost human resources, we have lost natural resources, we have squandered real treasures and so many times we have wasted time,” said Antonescu at the launch of his electoral program for the presidential elections.
He added that he has no attraction or inclination towards collectivist discourses and that populism is a simple and true thing, „which is not collectivist and not populist”.
„When we talk about a nation, we can only think of it as the elite and the underprivileged, the achievers and the underachievers together. For me, the future of the Romanian nation means the union between performance and solidarity. Without performance we cannot impose anything on anyone. In short, I come back to the applied program. Neither in the economy, nor in foreign policy, nor in defence policy will we count if we are not indispensable. We will not count if we do not bring added value to all projects, to all alliances, to all constructions. (…) We cannot speak of a strong nation, a strong nation will be either all of us or none of us,” Antonescu said.
