The candidate of the Romania Inainte [Romania Forward] electoral alliance in the May presidential election, Crin Antonescu, on Saturday stated that, if he becomes president, the secret services and the judiciary will no longer get involved in politics in Romania.
He told an electoral meeting in Suceava that the services will have to carry out their missions for which they were established, „they will defend the country, democracy and the rights of the citizens,” and that the judiciary „will work only for the laws and for the citizens.”
Antonescu also emphasised that Romania will have strategic foreign partnerships, but in Romania only the Romanians will get engaged in politics.
„As president, I will get sure that there will be some who will not be able to get engaged in politics in Romania. You wonder who? The other states. Other states will no longer get involved in politics in Romania. Romanians will be the only ones who will get engaged in politics in Romania. We have strategic partnerships, of other kinds, with large, important countries of the world. We will keep them, we will strengthen them. We are full, consolidated members of the European Union. We will keep and we will use this status more. We are members of NATO and I do not see another better, stronger solution, for security and solidarity of values than NATO (…) The services will do what the Constitution and their mission say they should do. They will defend the country, they will defend democracy, they will defend the rights and freedoms of citizens, but they will definitely not get involved in politics anymore,” Crin Antonescu claimed.
The candidate also emphasised that „the judiciary will no longer do politics” also.
„I will no longer accept that that judiciary gets involved in politics. This means that we will truly fight corruption without bypassing anyone, but we will not harass people who after six – seven – ten years, removed from politics, removed from the business world, sometimes separated from their families, are found innocent, acquitted, „the deed does not exist.” Justice will no longer do politics,” Crin Antonescu pointed out.
