The candidate of the „Romania Forward” Alliance for the presidential election, Crin Antonescu, says that Romanian companies must be protected from the effects of a large-scale trade war and tariff hikes between America and Europe, adding that he will ask the leaders of the coalition to ensure the government urgently prepares support measures for all affected industries.
„We must protect Romanian companies with all our strength from the effects of a large-scale trade war and tariff hikes between America and Europe. I will ask the coalition leaders to ensure the government urgently prepares support measures for all affected industries. These state aid schemes must be effective and easy to apply, and they should have immediate effects,” Crin Antonescu wrote on Facebook.
He mentioned that attracting major foreign investments to Romania and finding new markets for Romanian goods would become the new priorities of all of Romania’s embassies worldwide.
„As President of Romania, I will immediately change the focus of our diplomacy. We need to completely change our attitude and focus on active economic diplomacy. Attracting major foreign investments to Romania and finding new markets for Romanian goods will become the new priorities of all our embassies worldwide,” he added.
Crin Antonescu reacted after the announcement made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the increase in tariffs.
The U.S. President announced on Wednesday that any product entering the U.S. will be taxed at least 10%.
Donald Trump also revealed that tariffs of 20% will be imposed on products imported from the European Union, 34% on those from China, 31% from Switzerland, 26% from India, 10% from the United Kingdom, and 10% from Brazil.
