National Liberal Party (PNL) Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Siegfried Muresan voted on Friday in the presidential election, expressing support for „a European and honest Romania.”
„I have just voted for a European Romania, for an honest Romania. Come out and vote!,” Muresan wrote on Facebook.
In a video message on the same social network, Muresan said he had voted in Brussels for the first time.
„I urge all of you in the diaspora to find the nearest polling station and go out and vote. For me, today, the choice was very easy. I voted for a European Romania, I voted so that the work we’ve done in recent years hasn’t been in vain, I voted for us to move forward, not backward, with seriousness – just as I know each of you is. Today and tomorrow especially, I’m thinking of the Romanians in the diaspora who already have the opportunity to vote for the honest and serious work you’ve done so far, which deserves recognition. It is important for Romania to remain a reliable partner, to continue being seen by everyone as a serious country, and one that is well-governed in the future. For me, today, the choice was easy – it was simple. Between seriousness and lack of seriousness, I will always choose seriousness,” said the liberal MEP.
Friday marks the first day of voting abroad in this year’s presidential election second round.
The first overseas polling station opened at 7:00 AM local time (Thursday evening, 10:00 PM Romanian time) in Auckland, New Zealand.
