USR (Save Romania Union) chairwoman Elena Lasconi ruled out on Wednesday a withdrawal of her candidacy from the upcoming presidential elections, after her party announced that it will support independent Nicusor Dan.

„Categorically, I am not withdrawing. And now I am more determined than ever. (…) I am built for tough fights. I have no intention of withdrawing and I will fight with everything that I have,” Lasconi told Digi 24 private television channel.

She mentioned that she did not convene the USR National Bureau in which the decision for Nicusor Dan was made, which she considers „extremely bad.”

Lasconi also said she was certain she would be the „best president” for Romania.

The USR National Bureau decided on Wednesday to convene a meeting of the Political Committee to vote on supporting independent candidate Nicusor Dan in the May presidential elections.

The announcement was made during a press conference by USR vice president Dominic Fritz.
