Deputy Victor Ponta, a former prime minister, submitted his candidacy file for the presidential elections of May this year with the Central Electoral Bureau, on Wednesday.
„Romania is facing an unprecedented crisis, a crisis it hasn’t seen since 1989, an economic and social crisis. They canceled the elections, they blocked candidates that the system did not want and I want to see today if I will be allowed to run, because I am probably considered as big a danger as other candidates. (…) I think Romania needs a new beginning. The whole system needs to be reset and restarted and a new beginning is needed,” Ponta said at the BEC headquarters after submitting his candidacy.
