The minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, said on Monday, in central Alba Iulia, that for the period after April 1, 2025, when the compensation-capping scheme for the price of electricity expires, several simulations have been carried out, taking into account, for example, the application of targeted measures on the socio-economic level of the household.
„We are now preparing the period after April 1. What does this mean? We did some simulations. For Romanians who pay 1.3 RON (per kWh, editor’s note) today, in fact, they pay below the ceiling, you have seen that the suppliers have gone lower, below these ceilings, most likely the bills will be lower. For Romanians who pay this 0.68 RON, so they have a consumption below 100 kWh per month, we will find targeted measures for those who are vulnerable, those who really need support,” the Energy minister said at a press conference, when asked if there is a strategy for after April 1, 2025, when the energy market will be liberalized.
Burduja pointed out that there will be no increases in winter in terms of Romanians’ energy bills, the compensation-capping scheme being valid until next spring, and added that, in fact, since he has been minister, he has managed to keep this compensation-capping system, and even to reduce the bills.
„Since June, there has been a reduction in gas, about 20%, and in electricity, for those who had a consumption of over 300 kWh, so those who consume a little more, also about 10-15%, the bills have been cheapened,” said Sebastian Burduja.
