Prison officers, policemen members of Europol, Sidepol hold joint protest at Constanta Penitentiary

Published on

A joint protest of prison police officers and police officers who are members of the Europol and Sidepol unions from the Constanta branches will take place on January 30, at the Constanta Penitentiary – Poarta Alba, the organizers inform on Wednesday.

The police officers are protesting against the provisions of the „little train” ordinance that reduces salaries.

„We protest against the measures taken by GEO 156/2024 (the ‘little train’ ordinance). The provisions of this ordinance bring salary cuts for the entire system of national order and security. We ensure the continuity of service during weekends and public holidays without being paid for it. We no longer want to work for free! We can no longer accept the mockery of employees in this system, as it has been happening for years, regardless of the government. We are already at the end of January, and the problems are far from being solved, we only have promises so far, in which we no longer believe,” reads the statement of the president of the Democratic Union of Penitentiary Policemen (SDPP) Poarta Alba, George Lazer.

According to the same source, police officers have had their food allowance capped for years, with the last update taking place in 2019.

„The salary law no. 153/2017 is not fully applied only to us, those in order and national security. It is inadmissible that all other occupational families are paid according to the law (some in full since it came into force), and we beg for the law to be applied every year. Military pensioners are forgotten by the rulers. In the past 6 years, they have only received indexation with the inflation rate once. The updating of the rank and position salary for military pensioners is being delayed by the CCR,” the statement added.
