Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said that projects such as the modernization of the Romanian Olympic Committee (COSR) base in Izvorani or the reconstruction of the Unirii Square floor should be multiplied, stressing that in his capacity he will always be a partner for the realization of projects that contribute to Romania’s development.
The prime minister attended on Monday, at the Victoria Palace of Government, the signing of the contracts „Capital repair and modernization of the old COSR Izvorani base, Izvorani village, Ciolpani commune, Ilfov county” and „Regeneration of public spaces in the area of the Unirii Passage, through the consolidation and rehabilitation works of the Dambovita river floor in the Unirii Square”.
„I am glad that Romanian entrepreneurship is today adding two important projects for Romanians to its portfolio! It is further proof of the maturity that Romanian companies have reached, of their competitiveness in an open market! Whether we are talking about the rebuilding of the Unirii Square, or about the modernization of the COSR sports center, I wish that such investments will be multiplied! This is why you will always find in me a partner for the realization of projects that contribute to Romania’s development. And I say this because the contracts we will sign today represent, even if in different ways, investments in our future! On the one hand, we are talking about an investment in a safe capital for those who cross the Unirii area every day, either by car or by subway. And, on the other hand, an investment in a top sports infrastructure that will contribute to the performance of our athletes,” said Marcel Ciolacu.
He pointed out that both contracts have Romanians at the center of the government’s concerns, solving everyday problems and, above all, the prospects that the state creates for them. In the same context, the prime minister emphasized that Romania must continue to invest in sports infrastructure.
„I want to thank the president of the National Agency for Sport, Mrs. Elisabeta Lipa, the COSR president, Mr. Mihai Covaliu, for their continuous involvement in improving the conditions that the Romanian state can provide for athletes to perform. Romania must invest in sport! Both in performance sport and in sport for the general public. Sport is practically a blank check for our future, for the future of the next generations! The government, through the CNI [the National Investment Company], has completed 210 sports halls, 49 sports complexes and 16 swimming pools throughout the country. In addition to these, we have more than 380 investment objectives in sports infrastructure. With the participation of local administrations, I hope to increase the pace of investment in Romanian sport,” Ciolacu said.
At the same time, the prime minister emphasized the importance of rebuilding a „complex infrastructure node” in the capital.
„I would like to thank Mr. Daniel Baluta, the mayor of District 4, one of the most active local administrations in Romania! Together with specialists, the District 4 City Hall has identified the best options for restoring a complex infrastructure node in the heart of the Capital. The restoration of the Unirii Square, a vital node for the safety of those in traffic, but also for the entire area! I know this is not an easy project. In addition, during the works, we will have a period of traffic restrictions. That is why it is essential that the works are carried out quickly, within the set deadlines!,” said premier Ciolacu.
The event was attended, among others, by Deputy prime minister Marian Neacsu, COSR president Mihai Covaliu, Development minister Adrian Vestea, mayor of District 4, Daniel Baluta.
