The Prosecutor General’s Office is analyzing whether it is necessary to expand the criminal investigation against Calin Georgescu, after he appears to have reproduced a quote from former legionary leader Corneliu Zelea Codreanu in a show on Realitatea TV.
According to some officials of the Prosecutor’s Office, this concerns the statements made by Calin Georgescu on May 17 on Realitatea TV, in a show in which AUR leader George Simion also participated.
„I say this: we did not fight for toys, as Avram Iancu said, but for our rights. And I add: that he who fights even alone with a handful of brave men for his people and country and for God will never be defeated,” says Calin Georgescu, at one point, in a show moderated by Anca Alexandrescu.
Calin Georgescu is under criminal investigation, under judicial control, for committing six crimes, including publicly promoting the cult of persons guilty of committing crimes of genocide against humanity and war crimes, as well as promoting fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic ideas, concepts or doctrines.
Thus, Georgescu is accused of having, on October 20, 2021, in a speech given to a crowd of protesters against the restrictions imposed in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, organized in University Square in Bucharest, reproducing the words, gestures and tone of Marshal Ion Antonescu in the speech given by the latter at the Great Legionary Assembly on October 6, 1940.
An example of this is the phrase uttered by Georgescu: ‘Through peace and faith, through order and unity, through work and love, with God before us’, and at the end of the speech, he performed the legionary/Nazi salute.
Georgescu also appears to praise Corneliu Zelea Codreanu and Marshal Ion Antonescu in an interview from June 2020.
