The Social Democratic Party (PSD) chairperson will be voted for at the party Congress on August 24, electronically, according to a decision made on Friday by the National Political Council, announced the spokesman of the party, Lucian Romascanu, specifying that each delegate will receive an individual QR code in this sense.
The candidacies will be based on a motion, a team and a programme, and the number of vice-presidents of the party will be increased by four, Romascanu said.
He also specified that the submission of motions for the election of the party president will take place until August 22.
„We don’t have any kind of registration until this moment from the independent zone. But anything is possible, yet with a small condition: to have the support of a branch of the party. It is the only thing, for the rest, to have a declaration on their own responsibility that they fulfill all the conditions, the ID card, so they are not very complicated conditions to fulfill,” Romascanu added.
He said that the vote is secret and „this vote will be closed in 15 minutes with a final result, which leaves time available for work,” the party spokesman said.
Asked about the party’s candidate for Romania’s Presidency, Romascanu said: „We didn’t talk about it very much today.”
„Mr. (PSD chairman, ed. n.) Marcel Ciolacu said that he will not make such an announcement until he has discussed with each branch president individually. In general, and at least since he has been the president of the party, all decisions have been made within the party, and in the following period, he will make contact by phone or directly with all the presidents of the county branches, and then, depending on the respective discussions, the announcement will also appear on his possible candidacy, on the leadership list which he will present himself with at the congress,” Romascanu detailed.
When asked about an independent candidate, Romascanu said: „The door is open, but it’s hard for me to believe that someone will come if they haven’t come yet.”
