The ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) considers that following the indictment of USR-backed Sector 1 mayor Clotilde Armand, incumbent Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan who seeks another term, has a „moral obligation” to clarify his position towards the Save Romania Union (USR), which supports him in this electoral campaign.
„Nicusor Dan must answer the citizens of Bucharest if he accepts the support of USR’s criminally challenged, or if he delimits himself from this party, especially since defendant Clotilde Armand eyes a new term as Sector 1 mayor, under the USR banner. Nicusor Dan must decide if he agrees or not to team up with a legally embattled person in public office in the capital city’s government, so that the citizens of Bucharest can make an informed vote,” the PSD said in a press release.
According to the PSD, this clarification is necessary because „Nicusor Dan claims to be fighting all kinds of mafias and mocks his opponents for belonging to the underworld, suggesting that he has high integrity standards.”
„Now it’s the time for him to to show the Bucharesters if he really abides by these standards! The absence of a clarification in this matter is tantamount to a tacit acceptance by Nicusor Dan of USR’s decision to violate the ‘no convicts in public office’ principle and to line up several suspects and defendants in the June 9 local and European parliamentary elections,” the document notes.
Mayor of Bucharest Sector 1 Clotilde Armand was indicted by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sector 1 Court for using her position to favor someone, specifically for appointing herself as a manager in an EU-funded project.
