Physician Catalin Cirstoiu declared, on Friday, that his mandate for Bucharest City Hall’s candidacy „was and is on the table of the PSD-PNL coalition”.
„I said that I wanted to do public administration relying on serious and stable political support. I said that I do not assimilate this to a political administration. To be more direct, I want to tell you that I did not enter this race because I woke up one morning that I can be a good general mayor of the Capital. I had a proposal from the coalition. At the moment it became an obvious proposal, from my point of view, from then until today including, my mandate that the PSD-PNL coalition offered me was and is on the coalition’s table,” Cirstoiu told a press conference, in front of the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital.
He added that „he was a bit alone” in the pre-election campaign and did not feel support from the two parties.
„I felt the support of (PM, Social Democratic Party leader, ed. n.) Marcel Ciolacu and (Nation al Liberal Party head, ed. n.) Mr. Nicolae Ciuca, but, I admit, I was a bit alone from this point of view in this month-long campaign, this pre-campaign. I met many branch leaders who surrounded me with warmth, with support, with aplomb, I met members of the two parties, (…) beautiful people, who supported me and support me, but I believe that it cannot be a step for the General City Hall of the Capital without the support of this coalition, and I don’t want to take this step except at this juncture. I held the press conference at the hospital because no one will take the scalpel from my hand, I have a job, I’m a physician, I didn’t make politics a profession,” Catalin Cirstoiu explained.
He added that, probably, on Monday he will have a discussion with Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciuca to clear things up.
Cirstoiu also stated that he has no intention of running as an independent candidate.
