PSD to have National Standing Bureau meeting on Monday to establish clear position on continuation of gov’t collaboration

Published on

Social Democratic Party (PSD) interim chairman Sorin Grindeanu has convened the party’s National Standing Bureau for Monday, in order to establish the party’s clear position regarding the continuation of the governmental collaboration.

„I have decided to convene a meeting of the National Standing Bureau for Monday, to analyse the situation created within the governing Coalition following the stance taken by certain partners on the organisation of official ceremonies dedicated to former Romanian President Ion Iliescu. In PSD’s view, the recent actions and statements of some Coalition members, which are contrary to legal obligations and institutional norms of conduct, affect not only the relations between the signatory parties of the political governing agreement, but also the balance necessary for the Government’s functioning,” Grindeanu wrote on Facebook.

He added that PSD believes that, regardless of ideological differences or historical interpretations, respect for state institutions, for constitutional norms, and for historical memory must prevail in political life.

„The organisation of the official ceremonies provided by law in the event of the death of a former head of state is not a matter of choice, but an institutional responsibility. The purpose of the National Standing Bureau meeting is to assess the impact of these events on the functioning of the governing Coalition and to determine the party’s clear position regarding the continuation of governmental collaboration, under conditions of mutual respect and political fairness. PSD remains committed to supporting stable governance in the interest of the citizens, but emphasises that political loyalty, good faith and dialogue between partners are indispensable foundations of any lasting political construction,” Grindeanu concluded.
