PSD: USR has lost right to claim that it represents a standard of integrity and fight against corruption

Published on

The representatives of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) claim that in the Save Romania Union (USR) the practice of „making a shield around the criminals in the party” was instituted, and the argument that the criminal prosecution has not yet started against the accused „strongly contrasts with the attitude of this party towards other politicians in similar situations”, according to Agerpres.

„In the USR, the practice of ‘Next to criminals in public positions’ was instituted. Contrary to the behavior that other politicians suspected of incompatibility or corruption claimed, at the level of the USR, a usual practice of making a shield around the criminals in the party was already established. The fierce defense of the mayor of Sector 1 (Clotilde Armand, ed. n.), accused of incompatibility and criminal acts, is not an isolated case in the USR. The same political protection from the USR leadership was also manifested in the case of the mayor of Brasov, Allen Coliban. No USR leadership member has distanced themselves from him, after the DNA (anti-corruption watchdog) opened a criminal case for a series of illegal activities reported to Brasov City Hall, including the embezzlement of public funds to the NGO founded by the mayor Coliban himself,” says the PSD in a press release on Friday.

The social democrats consider that USR has definitively lost, through this attitude, „the right to claim that it represents a standard of integrity and anti-corruption fight”.

„The arguments invoked by the USR that the criminal prosecution has not yet started against the accused, that the criminal investigation is still in rem or that a court has not yet given a definitive ruling contrasts strongly with the attitude of this party towards other politicians in similar situations who were persistently asked to take a step back until they clarify their affairs in court,” the quoted source adds.
