PSD’s Ciolacu calls on Romanian politicians to plead for Romania’s accession to Schengen

Published on

Social Democratic Party (PSD) national leader Marcel Ciolacu is appealing for unity and asking Romanian politicians to advocate within their European political families for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Zone, according to Agerpres.

„The time has come for all decision-makers and political parties in Romania to support, in the coming weeks, on all channels and on all fronts, the accession of Romania to the Schengen Zone! It is very important that in this period we all be united and act for our country. There is no place for pride and rivalries in this matter. My call is for all parties to use their contacts in their European political families to support Romania’s accession to the Schengen Zone. I will do this at the Congress of European Socialists, which will take place shortly in Berlin. Also, my colleagues in the European Parliament have daily discussions with officials from other member states to convince them to support Romania’s cause. I am convinced that the other parties can also contribute significantly to achieving success for Romania,” Ciolacu wrote on Facebook on Friday.

He added that Romania has been meeting all the technical conditions for accession for a long time.

„We must not have any reservations in this fight for a strategic national objective, because justice is on our side! Romania has been meeting all the technical conditions for accession for a long time, and the conduct of our country in managing the flows of refugees from Ukraine and in providing routes of export for Ukrainian grain shows that Romania fully deserves admission to the Schengen Zone.”
