Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, the national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), on Monday said that negotiations for the position of European commissioners began six months previously, and he would like Romania to get the economy or internal market portfolio.
Ciolacu was asked, at the PSD headquarters, when negotiations for the position of European commissioner assigned to Romania began and if there is a short list of candidates.
„Negotiations have been going on for six months. Depending on what portfolios we receive, we will also nominate the commissioner. I insisted a lot on the economy and the internal market. I think that everything that is happening now is about the economy, and I think that the best portfolio for Romania at the moment is the economy and the domestic market.”
In another development, in the context of the results of the June 9 European Parliament election, Ciolacu said that the tendency of extremism and extremist parties had been contained in Romania.
„As we all can see, extremism in Europe has a high potential. It seems to me that these trends have been contained in Romania,” he said.
