PSD’s Grindeanu on magistrates’ pensions: PSD and I want to try to unblock things

Published on

Interim President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu stated on Tuesday that he wishes for things to be unblocked in the coalition meeting regarding the draft law on magistrates’ pensions and for a new law to be initiated and promulgated as soon as possible.

„I do not want us to turn everything into a battle of egos. The PSD and I want to try to unblock things. The PSD and I want, first and foremost, to have a new law. What exists now is unfair. It is unfair to Romanians that this law exists in its current form. And we want to have a new law. We want to meet the 28 November deadline with a new law, which also means its enactment, so that we do not lose European money. And we want all these things to be done in the coming period. These days we just sit around. We are doing nothing. We are waiting whether we are talking about the Government or the governing coalition, for the reasoning from the CCR [the Constitutional Court of Romania]. Our proposal is the following – in the days while waiting for the Constitutional Court’s reasoning, let us not stay idle, let us work. Let this working group proposed by us, which we give one, two, three days, come up with a draft bill and submit it to the coalition. The coalition can accept it or not in a political decision,” Grindeanu said at the PSD central headquarters.

He added that the retirement age for magistrates should not be negotiated, it should remain at 65, and pensions should not be equal to salaries. AGERPRES
