Interim national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday that Titus Corlatean is a colleague whom he respects and said that it is very good that there is competition for the leadership of the party at the congress convention, but he also wants the debates to be internal pre-convention time.

Grindeanu was asked how he sees Corlatean having joined the race for the PSD national chairmanship at a PSD congress convention that should take place this autumn.

„Titus is an old comrade. I remember that about 20 years ago I supported him, precisely 20 years, to be the secretary general of the Social Democratic Party and it was about 20 years ago. He was also – and I was glad – that he was part of several governments, Ponta and all the other things, and he is a colleague that I respect, and it is very good that there is competition inside PSD. PSD must emerge stronger from this internal competition, which will take place this autumn and from where the policies and the new path of the PSD must be as clear as possible and given through a vote. But I also wish that in this time, let’s say, pre-election, pre-convention, discussions will not lead to the weakening of the party. PSD must carry out all these internal debates without being attacked or offering moments of attack from our political opponents,” Grindeanu said at the PSD headquarters after a meeting of the party’s National Standing Bureau.

Grindeanu added that the congress convention for the election of the PSD leadership will be this autumn, with the final date to be set by the National Political Council.

PSD Senator Titus Corlatean, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, has announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Social Democratic Party.

In his opinion, the party needs competence, not mediocre people, „not transactional leaders, who have traded the interests of the party for their own interests.”
