Social Democratic Party (PSD) interim chairman Sorin Grindeanu announced that the party’s leadership members have decided not to attend the government coalition meetings until ‘the USR demonstrates political maturity and revises its attitude.’
‘History cannot be distorted! And those who judge today will, in turn, be judged tomorrow! PSD respects the institutions of the Romanian state! We refuse to endorse forms of incitement to public hatred displayed by USR leaders, even in official government meetings. That is why, together with my colleagues in the PSD leadership, we have decided not to participate in coalition meetings until USR shows political maturity and revises its attitude!,’ Sorin Grindeanu said on Wednesday in a post on his Facebook page.
‘We call on all politicians to show respect and decency towards the first president of democratic Romania, who led the country on the European and Euro-Atlantic path,’ the interim PSD leader added at the end of his message.
A coalition meeting on the finalisation of the second package of reform measures was scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 11:00 at Victoria Palace.
On Tuesday, the Social Democrats accused USR of showing a lack of respect, decency and humanity towards the first president of democratic Romania, starting from attempts to block the state funeral and national mourning for Ion Iliescu.
