PSD’s Stanescu: PSD Congress will probably convene at the end of August

Published on

Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Paul Stanescu on Friday said that the party’s Congress will most likely convene at the end of August and will tackle the election of the party’s leadership and electing the party’s the candidate for the Romanian Presidency.

„The Congress will tackle electing the party’s leadership and establishing the candidate for the Romanian Presidency. These will be two topics. (…) There are two concrete things, the National Political Council (CPN) will decide to call a meeting of the Congress, probably for the end of August, and everything will be decided there,” Stanescu said at the PSD headquarters.

He added that anyone that can muster support in the party can run for a leading position and to be a candidate in the presidential election.

Stanescu added that it is up to PSD national leader Marcel Ciolacu to decide whether or not he will be the party’s presidential candidate.
