Putin is reorganizing the military’s logistics services for Russia’s campaign in Ukraine

Published on

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Wednesday a restructuring of logistics services and other units under a unified command to strengthen the military campaign against Ukraine, dpa reports.

At a meeting with high-ranking military officials, Putin appointed Valeri Solodciuk to lead the reorganized logistics services. In the future, all rear support services will be placed “under a single command,” Putin said, according to the Kremlin.

The Russian president also said that Russia is restructuring its armed forces based on the experience gained and the operational requirements of the war in Ukraine.

Putin recently increased the size of the Russian armed forces by 25,000 personnel, bringing the total to 2.462 million, including 1.535 million active-duty soldiers.

Ukrainian drone attacks have targeted oil refineries and logistics hubs deep within Russia, significantly disrupting supply chains at the front. The situation has become particularly difficult in the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.

Solodciuk previously commanded the Central Military District, which played a key role in the invasion of eastern Ukraine. He will be succeeded by Andrei Ivanaev.

Putin praised the Vostok (East) Group, stating that the troops are advancing vigorously “at a pace that deserves the highest recognition.”

During the meeting, Putin also entrusted Denis Liamin with command of the new drone operations force.
