REPER’s Ciolos: We do not participate in EP elections just to go to Brussels

Published on

The list of REPER candidates for the European Parliament elections was submitted, on Wednesday, to the Central Electoral Bureau, it being opened by the MEP Dacian Ciolos and the co-chairs of the party Ramona Strugariu and Dragos Pislaru.

According to the former European Commissioner for Agriculture Ciolos, REPER members are not running „to go to Brussels”, but to represent a Romania that must be more present at the European level, with political leaders respected because they know what they are doing and have the trust of the other partners.

„Unfortunately, the political leadership in Romania, the Government that leads us at the moment, lacked this. This is why, unfortunately, we are not yet in Schengen with full rights, this is why, unfortunately, we have not yet absorbed and used European funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, we did not make reforms – all these things that could have strengthened Romania’s position at the European level. The period in which we will present our political program that we propose to the Romanians begins now and I am convinced that this program will make you understand that the useful vote is that vote given to people who know what they are talking about, who have already done things and who are recommended by competence,” Dacian Ciolos said.

According to him, the main objective of REPER in the European Parliament is to represent Romania as it should and to ensure that the legislation that is decided there represents the interests and expectations of Romanians.

„More than that, we want to make sure in this mandate that our brothers across the Prut (river, ed. n.), those from the Republic of Moldova, in five years and with our help, will be ready to join Romania in the European Union, as a member state of the European Union,” he added.
