Igor Grosu has been re-elected president of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS, pro-presidential). The party’s congress, which met on Sunday, 14 June, confirmed him for a new term, Newsmaker.md reports.
The PAS congress took place at the Palace of the Republic.
About 1,000 voting party members, delegates from territorial organisations and affiliated organisations attended the event. Several guests were also present at the congress, including Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Romania’s interim prime minister, Ilie Bolojan, the First Vice-President of the Greek Parliament, Giannis Plakiotakis, and the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Siegfried Mureșan.
Maia Sandu, the founder of PAS, who stepped down from the party leadership after being elected President of the Republic of Moldova, in line with legal provisions that prohibit the head of state from being a party member, sent a video message.
‘When, together with other colleagues, we founded the Party of Action and Solidarity, the team could fit into one office. Now the hall is too small. But your strength lies not so much in your large numbers, as in your unity and commitment to the same common values. I am proud of what we have achieved together and grateful to everyone who contributed to freeing the country from the corrupt, bringing the Republic of Moldova out of isolation and putting it on the right path, on the right side of history. We have endured despite the difficulties, we have worked hard. We have also made mistakes, but we never strayed from the fundamental principles: the national interest above personal interests, courage, respect for people, zero tolerance for lack of integrity, and prioritising correctness and honesty in all our activities. () I wish you to celebrate the joy of past achievements, but also to always carry the responsibility for the future on your shoulders,’ Maia Sandu said.
At the congress, Igor Grosu was re-elected president of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), with the support of 925 members. Another 27 members voted against. Grosu was the sole candidate for the party leadership.

In 2020, after the party’s founder, Maia Sandu, won the presidential election and became President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu took over as interim leader of the party. Later, on 15 May 2022, he was elected president of PAS with full powers.
