Mountain rescuers have started a search operation for two young Ukrainians who crossed the border into Romania through the Maramures mountains, the director of the Maramures Mountain Rescue Service – Salvamont (SPJ), Dan Benga, said on Friday.
„The 112 call was initiated by the mother of one of the Ukrainians who asked in tears for emergency help. According to the information we have from their relatives, the young men are wet, hungry, exhausted and unable to find their way down the mountain. Intervention teams are making every effort to locate them and bring them to safety,” said Dan Benga.
The operation to extract the two young Ukrainians is being supported by a Border Police team from Poienile de sub Munte, a town on the border with Ukraine.
